During a recent motorhome trip, we had loaded cardboard boxes into our outside storage compartment. After we arrived at our destination, I opened the storage door to find that there had been a fire. One of the boxes had moved against an interior light and caused it to turn on. The bulb became so hot that it caused the box to catch fire or smolder. Fortunately, the fire had gone out on its own. Had it continued to burn, we likely would have had a raging inferno. I have removed all of the storage compartment light bulbs for now.

Door Bumper

Door bumper, using Nerf footballTo keep the entry door from banging on the side of the motorhome when the wind caught it, I came up with a bumper made out of a children's Nerf football. I cut the football in half; painted it white to match the motorhome; and glued it to the side of the coach with Permatex RTV clear cement. I use this cement for many gluing projects where a tough, flexible adhesion is required.

Scale Holder

Scale holder, using magazine rackBeing full-timers, we needed a place to store our bathroom scale. A magazine rack placed on the wall in the bathroom solved our problem. Magazine racks aren't just for magazines anymore!

Shower Mats

Shower mats, using interlocking rubber matsWe carry interlocking rubber mats in our RV and have several uses for them. I use them as shower mats in campground shower facilities and also to stand or kneel on when dumping the holding tanks. They're great for keeping your feet out of the dirty water. You also can string them out to make a short walkway. They come apart with no problem and store easily.

Editor's Note: One manufacturer of this type of mat is DuraGrid, which makes 12-inch-by-12-inch interlocking squares. For more information or to order call (800) 457-0174 or visit www.duragrid.com. Another source is Dri-Dek (800-348-2398; www.dri-dek.com).

Wand Noise Solution

The motion of a motorhome often causes the window blind wands to swing to and fro, making a lot of unwanted noise. I found a simple solution for this by winding a wide rubber band around the end of each wand. Voila! Peace and quiet.

Fresh Water System Reminder

Fresh water system reminderWhenever my husband cleans out the water system, he never fails to ask, "How much bleach do I put in?" We solved this problem by writing the amount of bleach to be added, along with how many gallons of water, on the cap that covers the water system.

Editor's Note: Make sure to rinse the fresh-water system completely after cleaning it with bleach.
