Recall Corner: September 2010 Print Email

Fleetwood RV Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 10V304000, which affects some 2010 Encounter and 2011 Storm model 28MS Type A motorhomes built from December 16, 2009, through July 1, 2010. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 77.

The affected motorhomes did not have an emergency egress window installed in the street-side bedroom wall. In the event of a fire or other emergency, persons in the bedroom area must exit through the curbside bedroom emergency egress window or through the forward entry door. If the curbside window and front entry door are blocked, there is no way out of the motorhome, increasing the risk of personal injury.

A Fleetwood dealer will remove the existing street-side bedroom window and replace it with an emergency egress window. The repair is expected to take approximately 60 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Fleetwood RV at (800) 509-3418. Owner notification was expected to begin in July 2010.

Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 10V333000, which affects 2008 through 2010 Roadtrek 17PC, 17VC, 19PC, 19VC, 21PC, and 21VC Type B motorhomes built on GM Express Van chassis from January 1, 2008, through January 1, 2010. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 644.

On certain motorhomes, the lumbar support wire harness, which is between the switch and the lumbar motor, may have insulation that is not rated against the risk of fire per specification. Should a short occur in the 12-volt-DC wire harness, the insulation could melt or burn, creating a source of ignition that could lead to a fire. One possible short could be failure of the lumbar switch. If this failure occurs while the vehicle is in motion, the driver could become startled, and his or her reaction could increase the risk of an accident.

Roadtrek dealers will check the wire harness in both the driver side and passenger side front seats and replace the harnesses as necessary. The inspection is expected to take 15 minutes and replacement is expected to take approximately 45 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Even if your motorhome is not involved in a current recall, make sure the vehicle manufacturer and the chassis manufacturer have your current contact information on file for any possible future recalls.
